Olivia and Luke scheduled a Kennedy Center engagement session prior to their May wedding; it’s where they got engaged on New Year’s Eve! I love when couples are able to choose meaningful spots for their engagement sessions. It’s even better when the locations happen to be beautiful! The Kennedy Center roof offers some classic Washington, D.C. photo backgrounds, including nice views of the Washington Monument as well as Lincoln and Jefferson Memorials.
I encourage couples to brainstorm unique locations that are sentimental to them. Olivia and Luke had a built-in great option. For those who can’t schedule their session at the spot where they got engaged, we can brainstorm a bit! Where did you meet? Where did you go on your first date? Spend a few minutes thinking about it If you need inspiration, check out my website and Pinterest. We are lucky enough to have some iconic locations in Washington, D.C. that serve as beautiful settings, too. Just let me know which type of session you’d love and we’ll go from there!
Olivia did a great job choosing her outfits for their session. When choosing colors, I recommend selecting softer, lighter tones and more muted shades. Avoiding ultra-bright, bold colors helps bring all the attention to your faces and let the eye focus on the way you feel about each other. The camera loves shades of soft pink and muted blues, mixed with sophisticated light neutrals like heather gray, creams, leather brown and white. Softer color palettes also fit beautifully into almost all natural outdoor environments. More tips are included in the style guide I provide before all portrait session.
