I always encourage couples to consider places with personal meaning to them for engagement sessions. If nothing resonates, I have a list of favorite spots in Northern Virginia for engagement photos.
Most of these spots do not require permits for photo sessions. I have made a note, however, if there is a fee or permit process associated with the location.
Old Town Alexandria
I am biased, because I live here. But Alexandria offers so many options: the water, historic cobblestone streets, cute shopping areas, restaurants, bars … what’s not to love?

Meadowlark Botanical Gardens
This NOVA Parks property does require a photography permit and fee but is worth it! Dogs are not allowed within the property, but there are some places outside the gates for photos if you want to include your furry friends.

Manassas Battlefield
This National Park Service property does not require a permit and offers beautiful stretches of open land. If you time it right, you can even catch bluebells!

Chatham Manor near Fredericksburg, Virginia
This historic location is a National Park Service site; permits are not required for the average engagement session. More information is available here.
