From my first consultation with Ellen and Scott, they knew they wanted to take classically Washington DC wedding photos at some of the monuments. I was totally on board. A bit of careful planning and we made it happen! We went to one of my absolutely favorite spots, the Jefferson Memorial, for about 45 minutes between their cathedral wedding and evening reception.

Hiring a driver (or having a generous friend chauffer you) is key to making multiple photo locations work on your wedding day. No one needs the stress of parking when they’re on a schedule! We went immediately from the Cathedral of St Matthew the Apostle to the Jefferson Memorial. The stars aligned for us; we had perfect light and almost no crowd.

We shot until sunset (perfect timing!) and then headed to Ellen and Scott’s wedding reception in DuPont Circle. Patterson Mansion offered the vibe they wanted for their wedding reception: historic with a modern touch. A black and white color palette reinforced their vision of simple elegance.

Once the dancing started, it. did. not. stop. The energy at this wedding was absolutely unreal!
