If you’re a photographer, ’tis the season for family sessions! Everyone wants a fall family photos so they have updated images to gift at the holidays and use in their cards. Emily booked this session over the summer to ensure she had her choice of dates!

Scheduling a session for September or October leaves plenty of time to create prints or other products and cards. I know most of us don’t take the time to do anything with out photos beyond posting them to Instagram; I’m as guilty of that as anyone!

But I do love the photos of my family, dogs and friends that I have managed to print out and hang on my walls. My family has been getting photo-related items at Christmas for several years now. Once, my brother got a pillow with a lovely picture of his dog printed on it (honestly, sometimes the dog starts at the pillow like she kind of understands it’s her!). Last year, everyone got flash drives with all our memories from that 2018 saved on them: our trips, portraits of the dog we had to say good-bye to that year, and my nephew’s first visit to the zoo.

The benefit of having a photographer in the family is that every milestone is well-documented. But a beautiful family session like these fall family photos should capture the essence of this season of your life. For Emily’s family, that meant little girls playing in leaves and twirling around in their new dresses.

For whatever you want to do with your photos, I make recommendations here. For several years now, I’ve been creating my own holiday cards via Simply to Impress and have been super happy with the results!
