Deborah had graduated before, many times. But she had never celebrated her accomplishments with graduation photos. I was thrilled to work with her; graduation sessions can be really fun; when else do we throw caps in the air?

When clients book graduation sessions, I encourage them to spend a short portion of the session on headshots. Recent grads are likely entering the workforce or changing careers so an updated LinkedIn profile picture can only help! Plus, with the ubiquity of Zoom meetings online, we all need a nice headshot to fill those boxes on the screen. Deborah’s red sweater really made her portraits pop! If you’re not entirely sure how to prepare for headshots or professional portraits, don’t worry. I provide a style guide before graduation sessions and additional resources to help you prep for headshots.

Washington, D.C. provides many beautiful locations for photo sessions of all kinds. Often, grads from local schools want to mark their time in Washington, D.C. with photos taken at iconic spots. The Lincoln Memorial is currently under construction, so I recommended the Jefferson Memorial to Deborah. Rain was forecast for the day of her session, but she opted to proceed. I’m so glad she did, because we had the whole place to ourselves! The overcast day made for some extra dreamy backgrounds; I think they look almost like watercolors.

If you’re planning a graduation session, we can also meet on campus. I’ve done graduation sessions at Georgetown University, the University of Maryland and The George Washington University to name a few. We’re spoiled for choice when it comes to photo sessions in the Washington, D.C. area!

Graduating soon? Get in touch and let’s plan a session to celebrate the milestone with your own graduation photos!
