Anastasia and Cliff live in northern Virginia so opted for an iconic Jefferson Memorial engagement session before marrying next spring at the Virginia House in Richmond. I encourage couples to brainstorm unique locations that are sentimental to them. But for those who don’t already have a spot, we can brainstorm a bit and we do have some amazing locations in the Washington, D.C. area that serve as beautiful photo session settings. Just let me know what type of session you’d love (city, country, waterside, garden …) and we’ll go from there! In this case, we ended up at the Jefferson.
I like to schedule photo sessions for just after sunrise or in the time leading up to sunset. That’s when we get that soft, glowing light that makes everyone look amazing. If we’re honest, the Jefferson Memorial is best at sunrise; that way we avoid the literal busloads of crowds that visit later in the day. These two opted for sunrise.
These two did a great job dressing for their session. To help in preparing for your session, I provide my clients with a style guide to help them prep. When choosing colors, I recommend selecting softer, lighter tones and more muted shades. Avoiding ultra-bright, bold colors helps bring all the attention to your faces and let the eye focus on the way you feel about each other. The camera loves shades of soft pink and muted blues, mixed with sophisticated light neutrals like heather gray, creams, leather brown and white.
