Royalty graced Brianna and Oliver’s engagement session. Khaleesi, First of Her Name, the Cutest, Queen of all Virginia, Chaser of Balls, Giver of Cuddles (aka their adorable golden retriever) joined them for the first part of their engagement session at Meadowlark Botanical Gardens. Doggies aren’t allowed inside the gardens though, so Khaleesi went home to do whatever it is queens do.

Brianna and Oliver are another couple who had to switch up plans because of the pandemic. Luckily, only their engagement session, originally scheduled during cherry blossom season at the Tidal Basin, had to be rescheduled. Their original May 2021 wedding date is still a go (fingers crossed!). Once again, everyone made the best of this change in plans.

NOVA Parks, which runs the gardens, charges a small fee for photography sessions. Paying a bit means that we didn’t have to wait in line for good spots. If you’ve ever been in Old Town Alexandria on a weekend evening, you know what I mean. Photographers are all over the place! I’ll often have to wait for another photographer to finish up with their clients before I can snag my shots. We had no such problems. And kudos to NOVA Parks; scheduling is a breeze!

I’ve done other types of sessions there, but this was my first engagement session at Meadowlark Botanical Gardens. I love the romantic photo opportunities provided by Willow trees, and the grounds at Meadowlark don’t disappoint!

The park also offers multiple bridges, colorful blooms galore and lots of walking paths. Pro tip: wear comfortable shoes! This location definitely calls for a pair of flats to change into if you’re wearing heels for the photos.
