Weddings are beautiful, especially a Virginia Fall wedding with perfect, glowy light. And at every wedding, there’s an especially beautiful moment or two where something sweet happens and I get a little teared up. Sometimes it’s the father-daughter dance, sometimes it’s how a couple reacts during their first look. At Lisa and Jason’s wedding, I had a bunch of these moments.

I’ve been friends with Lisa since I pledged a sorority as a freshman in college. During my twenties, she was one of the women with whom I tried to figure out the whole “dating as an adult” thing. Nights out in D.C., texting to debrief about dates, venting about the absurdity that is online dating, ugly crying over some guy or another. We went through it all together.

Then Lisa found Jason through yet another sorority sister AND HE LOOKS AT HER LIKE THAT. I’m a little teary just writing about it.

Lisa and Jason’s wedding became a mini-sorority reunion. We did face masks and drank wine the night before. The Southern Inn, one of our favorite restaurants in Lexington where we went to college, catered the reception. Hermitage Hill Farm is smack in the middle of the Shenandoah Valley so we all got nostalgic for the mountains. The whole group of girls did our sorority’s traditional toast/song during the reception (well, I took pictures of it, which is just as well because I can never remember the lyrics).

And throughout the weekend, we kept telling each other how wonderful it was that Lisa didn’t settle for anyone else. She waited for her person, and they’re perfect for each other.
