Jessica and Con live just a few blocks from me in Alexandria, and I just love that they planned an Old Town Alexandria wedding. The greater Washington, D.C. area offers many lovely wedding venues and fabulous wedding vendors, but the couple kept it hyper-local with many Old Town Alexandria wedding vendors.
The couple’s religious ceremony took place at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. Kimpton Lorien Hotel and Spa was the venue for everything from getting ready to the reception. Jessica was upgraded to the Presidential Suite, which is the most lovely hotel room I’ve worked in so far. Great light, and plenty of space for a full bridal party!
Planning contingencies for bad weather
We were prepared for bad weather. Hurricane Florence was making her way across the Atlantic in the week leading up to the wedding. While Virginia was likely going to be spared the worst of it, rain was forecast. Both the ceremony and reception were planned for indoor venues. Rain would have thrown a wrench in our planned outdoor portraits and family photos, however. And of course, a thunderstorm also makes the traveling to and from venues more difficult.
But Saturday dawned with blue skies. I gathered up my giant clear umbrellas and took them with me, just in case. Throughout ten hours of getting ready, photographing portraits, traveling to the church and posing a huge family photo of a few dozen people, I saw not a drop of rain. We were able to use the Lorien’s gorgeous terraces for Jessica’s family and bridal party photos and its courtyard for Con’s.
The light was perfect all day:
